I was out shootin’ squirrels in the vineyard yesterday and I came across this little guy.
How cute! This fawn is in “camouflage” position, trying to blend into her surroundings.
Mother deer leave their babies, especially newborns like this one, to go forage for food. Newborn fawns are too small to follow their mother the long distances she needs to travel to find enough food to make milk for her baby. If you find a young fawn it is best to leave it. Do not pick it up! They need to retain their natural fear of humans. The mother will return to it after she has eaten her fill for the day and when there are no humans around.
